This calculator makes it easy to compare the climate impact of different plastic materials. By calculating CO₂e emissions from both virgin and recycled (PCR) plastics within PP, PE, and PET, you get a clear picture of how both material choice and weight affect the carbon footprint. The calculations follow established principles according to the GHG Protocol and are based on emission factors from the Ecoinvent database.

This calculator is intended for comparison between plastic materials and does not constitute a complete climate assessment of packaging. The emission figures are based on the production of plastic granulate as a common step in the value chain and exclude subsequent steps such as forming, filling, printing, and transport. The calculations are based on emission factors from Ecoinvent (ordered 2025), representing average values. All calculated values are rounded for clarity.
